Open letter
Everyone wins when Australia electrifies
An open letter to the Prime Minister and the Minister for Climate Change and Energy
To
No matter where we live or what we do for work, every person in Australia deserves access to reliable, affordable and renewable energy.
Australia has the chance to lead the world. A third of our homes run on low-cost rooftop solar, and no country is installing batteries faster. Electrification is the missing piece that puts that electricity to work, swapping gas, diesel and petrol for electric alternatives so households, businesses, farms and manufacturers run on cheaper energy made in Australia.
Every spike in global energy prices flows through to what Australians pay, from the bowser to the supermarket shelf. Australia imports more than 90 per cent of the diesel our trucks, mines and farms run on. In March 2026 alone, automotive fuel prices rose more than 30 per cent in a single month.
The electric technologies we need to break our dependence on expensive, imported fuels are already here. What's missing is a commitment from Government to deploy them at scale through clear policy, regulatory reform and targeted funding, to unlock the benefits for everyday Australians.
We are Electrify Australia, a growing movement of consumer, business, civil society and research groups. Together we are calling on the Albanese Government to accelerate electrification across every sector of the economy.
Households. Transport. Agriculture. Industry. Commercial buildings. Resources. Energy. The barriers differ by sector, but the answer is the same everywhere. Clear policy signals, effective regulation and targeted incentives that reach the people and businesses currently locked out of the switch.
From farm gates to factory floors, freight routes to front doors, everyone wins when Australia electrifies. The signatories below represent industries, unions, and communities that see this clearly.
We stand ready to work with you, so that together we can deliver affordable, reliable energy for this generation and the next.
Yours sincerely,
The undersigned organisations
